Knights of Pythias Volunteer
Month - October, 2009
TO: ALL GRAND SECRETARIES AND SECRETARIES OF LODGES UNDER
THE CONTROL OF THE SUPREME LODGE, SUBORDINATE LODGE
SECRETARIES, DEPUTY SUPREME CHANCELLORS AND SUPREME LODGE
OFFICERS
Whereas: Volunteerism is not only part of my Supreme
Chancellor’s Program; it is part of our American tradition.
We can go back to the very beginning of our nation’s history
and find that pilgrims were involved in volunteering their
time and effort to help others. Centuries have gone by and
being a volunteer is still looked upon as one of the most
honorable and caring acts that men and women do for each
other, and
Whereas: We as Pythians can use our numbers for good, by
volunteering at the very least, a few hours during the month
of October, 2009. Many local organizations can use help;
hospitals, nursing homes, soup kitchens, day care centers,
elderly folks needing a ride to a doctor, answering phones
for charitable organizations and much, much more. Listings
can be found on many web sites or supplied by the Supreme
Lodge, and
Whereas: The act of volunteerism has its rewards; the
genuine feeling of doing something for someone in need is a
powerful incentive for each of us, the help or assistance
you provide for someone in need lets them know you care and
gives them hope; and the recognition given to the Knights of
Pythias is priceless. I am certain that individual Knights
have personal reasons why they would want to volunteer to
aid others; perhaps during their lifetime a hand reached out
to help them or someone they know, and
Whereas: As a Page we were told “You go to claim the golden
spur that knighthood wears. To wear it, you must win it”.
Volunteerism is on one of those roads traveled to claim the
golden spur. This program will succeed with the
participation of all Pythians; please join with your
Brothers in helping those in need.
NOW THEREFORE, the month of October, 2009 is hereby
proclaimed as the Knights of Pythias Volunteer Month and I
do hereby instruct every Subordinate Lodge to plan at least
one event that will involve performing Benevolent and
Charitable service through volunteering their time to their
local communities.
