Pythian International Heading

October 9th Chancellor Commanders Editorial

Written by PGC Sir Murry Greene of the Domain of New Jersey

My Dear Brothers:

I am writing this at the start of the Holiday Season. At this time we all reflect on the past year and pray for, health, family and to be in the book of life for the New Year. The Knights of Pythias to many of us is an extension of family and as such ask for forgiveness and pledge for a New Year of understanding, and good deeds to fellow man. It saddens me to observe the lack of family, forgiveness, friendship by some brothers to others.

Webster’s definition of a friend, one that seeks the society or welfare of another whom he holds in affection, respect, or esteem or whose companionship and personality is pleasurable: one not hostile, or not an enemy : one that gives assistance or that favors or promotes something (as a cause, institution, or project.)

Friendship as in (FCB) is the state of being friends. This as many of the salutary words uttered by Pythians are just mouthed, without the thought of meaning and demonstration.

There are those that profess to be the “keeper of the flame” are helping to hinder the delicate balance of friendship and family. It is true that in trying to do the right thing, in projects, programs ritual etc. mistakes will be made in procedure and protocol. It is proper to bring these issues to light. It is the how and when these admonitions should be made.

By a vindictive, professorial, dogmatic critique of an issue; is what destroys the creative ability of the process. Potential volunteers that see this are reticent to partake because of potential criticism. It is clear that developing workers and getting brothers to volunteer is more difficult than ever. It is when this type of attitude is demonstrated to brothers, is one of the issues that that helps in the decline of the Brotherhood.

Brothers have understanding, compassion and demonstrate “FRIENDSHIP”. Be constructive not destructive.

Things are difficult enough. Cooperate volunteer again become part of the active Pythians. Attend meetings and allow our Lodge to prosper. Let us not fold by default.
